Lead Teacher
General Position Description
Plans and implements daily experiences and curriculum for children, from ages six weeks to
five years, who are enrolled in at Another Inspired Day Learning Center. Develops lesson
plans and writes individualized educational plans for each child. Records notes and
anecdotal data, assesses children and maintains children’s files. Ensures the health, safety
and development of children in the classroom. Implements Maryland State Department of
Education (MSDE) licensing guidelines as well as Healthy Beginning Standards to support nurturing the tremendous potential for learning and growth that every child has. Implements
program activities to conform to the Investigators Club Curriculum for all children.
Communicates with parents through daily interactions and scheduled parent conferences.
Serves as mentor to Assistant Teacher and Aide positions. Duties are performed under the
supervision of both the Director and Assistant Director.

Key Responsibilities
​
Plans and implements a daily program of developmental experiences for
preschool children.
Oversees the work of Assistant Teacher, Aides, substitutes and volunteers.
Provides care and protection for the children, helping them learn to adapt to and cope with real-life situations and to develop appropriate habits in such activities as hand washing, eating, and other self-help skills.
ï‚· From daily observation, notes the physical condition of each child, reports
conditions needing attention, and administers first aid treatment when
needed.
ï‚· Maintains progress records on the emotional, physical, social and intellectual
development of the children.

ï‚· Holds regular individual parent-teacher conferences and participates in parent
group meetings and activities.
ï‚· Maintains clean, attractive, healthful surroundings and assures that
equipment and materials are kept accessible to the children and in good
condition.
ï‚· Attends and participates in trainings, conferences and workshops in
accordance with MSDE standards of annual continued education.
ï‚· Performs center administrative duties, to include daily attendance, daily child
reports, individual child assessments.
ï‚· Performs related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
​
ï‚· Considerable knowledge of individual behavior and the growth and
development of children, and the impact of group relationships.
ï‚· Knowledge of health, safety and first aid methods.
ï‚· Knowledge of the factors which may affect children both positive and
negative.
ï‚· Ability to establish warm and supportive relationships with children, on a
group and individual basis, gaining confidence and trust and imparting a
sense of security.
ï‚· Ability to provide a wide variety of stimulating experiences for children to meet
individual intellectual and emotional needs.
ï‚· Ability to develop and maintain a working relationship with parents and the
entire AIDLC team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background
check and a Child Protective Services Registry check to the satisfaction of the
employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
​
ï‚· Course work in early childhood education or a related field.
​
ï‚· Experience teaching infants, toddlers and preschool children.
ï‚· Knowledge and experience working with children with special needs.
ï‚· Experience implementing preschool curriculum, Licensing Guidelines,
NAEYC Accreditation, CLASS, Early Head Start or Head Start.
ï‚· Supervisory experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
​
Position is active in nature. Must be able to monitor and observe the activities of program
participants. Regularly moves about or positions self to supervise and interact with
participants at their level. Occasionally lifts, transports, positions, push/pulls or moves up to
50 pounds. Must be sufficiently mobile and possess a range of motion to perform repetitive
standing, walking, balancing, stooping, bending, crouching, crawling, sitting on the floor,
reaching, squatting, kneeling, and twisting. Ability to react quickly to the physical actions of
program participant. Requires the ability to apply CPR and First Aid skills as needed and
respond to emergency situations. Administrative and supervisory activities will require ability
to operate keyboard-driven equipment. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
Sufficiently mobile to attend meetings. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
